Common Questions About Pediatric Foot Care

Does my child need orthotics for flat feet?

In some cases, your child may not experience any issues with flat feet. For instance, if they are able to run and play without pain, they do not need to be treated. If, however, your child’s flat feet are causing pain, they could likely benefit from custom orthotics.

Why are custom orthotics better?

Custom orthotics are better than over-the-counter orthotic devices because they are specifically designed for the unique specifications of the patient's feet. This allows the orthotics to hold the feet in their correct positions for an equal distribution of weight and proper foot pain alleviation.

What is club foot?

Club foot is one of the most common birth defects in U.S. children. If your child was born with this condition, you should seek advice from a podiatrist as soon as possible to begin planning treatment.

Does my child have high arches?

If your child has high arches, the condition is usually visible as an abnormal curvature of the midfoot when your child is standing. A high arch may make it difficult for you to find shoes that fit your child comfortably and can also cause heel pain. If you are concerned that your child may have this condition, consult a podiatrist.
