FAQs About Orthotics

When we have something tailored to fit us properly, we are most likely to experience more comfort and support. If you have an abnormal foot function, experience foot pain caused by medical conditions such as diabetes, or require more stability, foot orthotics provide extra cushioning and alleviation on surrounding joints and ligaments. At Family Foot and Ankle Associates of Maryland, we design custom-made foot orthotics for patients who live near our convenient Olney, Camp Springs/Clinton, Silver Spring, or Kensington, MD locations.

Below we've answered some of our patient's frequently asked questions.

What is a Foot Orthotic?

At Family Foot and Ankle Associates of Maryland, we create custom foot orthotics that are designed to fit your foot only. Also known as a shoe insert, these orthotic devices are meant to be worn inside the shoe to correct foot issues and enhance the way you walk, stand, or run. They fit most footwear, and also provide all-day relief from foot pain caused by plantar fasciitis, arthritis, low back pain, or weakness in the knees.

What are the Benefits of Foot Orthotics?

  • Personalized fit
  • A decrease in muscle fatigue
  • Relief from pain in the lower limbs
  • Reduced stress and strain on the body
  • Increased endurance, strength, and athletic performance

How Can Orthotics Help Me?

Foot orthotics can help you avoid invasive treatment options in the future. If you have flat feet or high arches, foot orthotics can prevent injuries and provide added support to the foot and ankle. If your feet aren't ideally positioned, these devices can correct any abnormalities that are present. Orthotics come in a variety of sizes and materials, but after a foot exam, one of our board-certified podiatrists will determine the best type suitable for your needs.

At Family Foot and Ankle Associates of Maryland, we welcome new patients who live near any of our four convenient locations. If you live in the area and would like to discuss the benefits of foot orthotics, one of our many board-certified podiatrists can customize them just for you and answer your questions. To schedule an appointment, please call the location nearest you.
