Orthotics in Silver Spring, Olney, Crofton and Clinton, MD

Every day our feet take on hundreds of tons of force just when walking, so it’s safe to say that our feet go through a lot throughout the day. Whether you’re on your feet all day for work, you are a runner or you are dealing with underlying foot problems, you probably could benefit from prescription orthotics, or shoe inserts. Here at Family Foot and Ankle Associates of Maryland, PA we craft and fit custom orthotics in-house for patients of all ages.

What are orthotics?

Orthotics, or shoe inserts, are designed to correct abnormal walking patterns. They also provide arch support and help patients stand, walk and move more comfortably when wearing shoes. While many people can benefit from orthotics, even those who aren’t dealing with foot problems, many people don’t even realize it. Orthotics can be used to alter and improve how the feet function, protect and support the feet, or offer both function and support.

What type of orthotics is right for me?

This is something that our podiatrists can discuss with you when you come in for your evaluation. During your evaluation, we will ask you questions about the symptoms and issues you’re dealing with and then thoroughly examine your feet. From there, we will analyze your gait and walking patterns to determine which type of orthotics will best suit your needs. The custom orthotics that we offer should not be confused with drugstore orthotics, which offers a one-size-fits-all approach and can even make some foot problems worse. If you are looking to alleviate symptoms or correct an imbalance, our custom orthotics are the most effective solution.

Who can benefit from orthotics?

We have fitted patients of all backgrounds, fitness levels, lifestyles and ages with custom orthotics. In some cases, these simple devices can prevent problems from happening just as much as they can help you manage your symptoms. We work with athletes and avid exercisers to provide them with custom orthotics that offer additional support and cushioning to the feet as a whole, while also ensuring proper foot alignment to prevent injuries. Orthotics can also be beneficial to you if you are dealing with,

  • Diabetes
  • Foot pain and discomfort
  • Foot swelling
  • Leg, thigh or lower back pain
  • Flat feet
  • High arches
  • Bunions and hammertoes
